Booking terms and conditions

Booking requests and Booking confirmations

The first step in order to book a tour is to send us the online form provided on our website. You will immediately get an automatic reply from booking@gaytours.com. This email is not a confirmation for your booking request.

Before confirming your tour we need to check the availability for the date you are interested in. We will let you know this in a new email, sending you as well the link to our checkout page and a promotional code. You can make your payment via Stripe. If you have a problem with this platform, we can provide a PayPal link.

Your booking is completed after getting a notification from Stripe informing us that the payment is done. The platform will automatically send you an electronic receipt.

Booking processing times

We do our best to reply to your emails and Instagram direct messages as soon as possible, if there is a delay is because we are touring. We check our contact forms, emails and social media every day, so you can be sure that your request are going to read and replied between 12–15 hours after being sent.

Last minute bookings

We encourage you to send your booking request at least 2 or 3 working days in advance so that we have time enough to process it and secure an unforgettable tour for you. Last minute bookings are available but limited to some of our tours, just send us a direct message on Instagram and we will check for availability.

Day tours

Unfortunately we can not process last minute bookings for any of our Day tours as most of them need 1 or 2 days to get the admission tickets to selected places of interest, like museums or historical buildings. Please, follow the regular process to book one of them by sending us the online forms provided.

Night tours

Last minute bookings for all night tours are available if you contact us via direct message on Instagram and make your payment in cash in the meeting point (without this, the tour won’t start). This last minute booking option runs every day from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Be advised that we only give one tour every night and there is just one guide in charge. We cannot process your last minute requirement if someone else has a confirmed tour for the day, nor if the limit of 3 people per tour has been reached.

10% or 15% discount coupons are not valid for last minute bookings.

Weekend tours

Unfortunately we cannot process same day or last minute booking requests for any of our Weekend tours. Please, follow the regular process to book one of them by sending us the online forms provided.

Seasonal tours

We only give our seasonal tours on Mondays, at two different times: the first tour starts at 10 am, the second at 2 pm. Both are available for same day and last minute bookings.

Last minute bookings for Seasonal tours are available if you contact us via direct message on Instagram and make your payment in cash in the meeting point (without this, the tour won’t start). This last minute booking option runs every Monday from 6 am to 8 am for the first tour, and from 10 am to 12 pm for the second tour.

Be advised that we only give one tour every night and there is just one guide in charge. We cannot process your last minute requirement if someone else has a confirmed tour for the day, nor if the limit of 3 people per tour has been reached.

10% or 15% discount coupons are not valid for last minute bookings.

Making changes

Itineraries

All our tours are tailored according to criteria that let us coordinate and balance walking time between places, tour schedules in museums, opening hours of several other places, and timetables of buses, tram and trains services as well. Based on these logistics it is not easy to make changes in the proposed itineraries, like mixing destinations from one to another tour, or adding places for visiting.

Starting time

Is not possible to change the starting time of any itinerary. All tours are planned to allow us to have 2 per day: one in the morning (Tuesdays to Sundays) for our Day or Weekend tours, and a second tour in the night to visit pubs (Night tours), from Monday to Sunday. *Monday mornings and afternoons are destined for our Seasonal tours.

Keeping this time balance is essential to guarantee you an unforgettable experience, and also to the guest from the next tour of yours, especially when the gap between day and night tours is just 30 or 45 minutes.

Scheduled days

Day and Weekend tours

We only offer one tour per day during the morning and one tour by night, daily. We prefer if you book a tour for the day that is indicated in our catalogue, although (just in extreme cases), it may be possible to take a tour on a different day if 1) there is no booking confirmed yet for the day you request, and more important, 2) if we still are in time to make the change by getting the admission tickets included in your tour.

This kind of change only works between Day and Weekend tours, and we highly recommend you to send your booking request at least 4 or 3 days in advance. Here there is an example on how this option works.

The Extreme Book Lovers tour is scheduled on Thursdays, let's say 7 December 2023. You can take it any other day (Tuesday 6 or Saturday 9) if no one has confirmed the assigned tour of the day (Heritage/Becoming a Republic for Tuesdays, or Grand Canal & Royal Canal for Saturdays).

Based on the same system, you can swap between Day and Weekend tours because all of them are scheduled between 8 am to 6 pm.

Once we have checked availability, you will continue with the regular process to complete your booking request. Keep in mind that we cannot process a scheduled day change if someone else has a confirmed tour for the day, nor if the limit of 3 people per tour has been reached.

Night tours

Be advised that Night tours are only offered from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. You cannot take them earlier because the other tours finish at 6 pm. Let us know if you want to book one on a different day than is assigned in our catalogue, and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Here there is an example on how this option works.

The Trad Music Pub tour is scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays, but you want to book it on Monday or Sunday. Making this change is possible if it does not interfere with previously confirmed bookings and the limit of 3 people per tour has not been reached.

This kind of change only works for Night tours, and we highly recommend you to send your booking request at least 3 day in advance.

Once we have checked availability, you will continue with the regular process to complete your booking request. Keep in mind that we cannot process a scheduled day change if someone else has a confirmed tour for the day, nor if the limit of 3 people per tour has been reached.

Seasonal tours

Our Seasonal tours are only available on Mondays at two different times of the day: 10 am and 2 pm. There are just two Seasonal tours in our 2023 catalogue: Temple Bar Beyond Temple Bar (March to June) and Mapping O'Connell Street (August to February).

There is no possibility of taking them on a different day during the week, but you can request any of them in a different season, if it does not interfere with previously confirmed bookings and the limit of 3 people per tour has not been reached.

Rescheduling tours

This option is only available for all our night tours, and two weekend tours: “City Parks”, and “Royal & Grand Canal”. You can take a confirmed booking in a different date only if:

  1. you notify us about the change with at least 3 days before the tour starts,
  2. the change does not interfere with previous confirmed bookings,
  3. the limit of 3 people per tour has not been reached, and
  4. the new required date does not exceed 3 days from the original booked day.

There are no extra fees for a rescheduling day, when it is made following the criteria detail above. Rescheduling days are not possible to process 48 hours (2 days) before the tour starts. If you cannot take the tour any more it might be refundable up to 75%. Please refer to our Cancellations and Refunds section.

Cancellations and Refunds

If you cannot take a tour any more, you can cancel it and apply for a refund. To cancel a tour email to booking@gaydublintours.com with the word CANCEL in the subject. Tell us about your reasons and we will assist you.

Cancellations made up to 7 days before the booked day gets 75% back.

Cancellations made up to 4 days before the booked day gets 70% back.

Cancellations made 3, 2 or 1 day before the booked day gets 60% back.

Cancellations made on the same booked day get 55% back.

We rely on Stripe (process and conditions) to give you back the money. Some refunds can take up to 30 days, depending on the card company.

Discount coupons

A 10% off coupon applies to all first time bookings. To claim it you have to select the option “Yes, I want a discount coupon” in the box “Booking for first time?” located in the online form for booking requests.

A 15% off coupon applies in your second booking, if this is made within 7 days from the first tour. To claim in, you have to mark the option “I am back, my second time” in the box “Booking for first time?” located in the online form for booking requests.

Both coupons cannot be used at the same time. Coupons are not transferable and cannot be changed for cash.   10% or 15% discount coupons are not valid for last minute bookings.

Food and drinks

Coffee breaks

A coffee break is included in all our Day, Weekend and Seasonal tours. This consist of a drink and a treat. The drink is limited to a cup of hot chocolate, coffee or tea (regular size); and a pastry or snack. Together, drink and treat, can not exceed €10 for one person, €20 for two people, and €30 for 3 people. Coffee breaks take place within the first 90 minutes of every tour, except the one served at the end of our Seasonal tours.

A list of local cafés has been curated for these drinks and food; no international franchises are part of the list.

There are no coffee breaks for Night tours, but with dinner you can have a coffee (instead of a glass of wine from the house or a pint) and then enjoy the 3 pints offered in the tour.

Lunch

Lunch is included in all our Day and Weekend tours. Day tours have two lunch options: saver and upgrade. Weekend tours only offer one option.

Day tours

Saver option for lunch in Day tours is limited to a toastie (toasted sandwich) and a non-alcoholic drink (soft drink or canned drink), in a local café (no takeaway). Together, toastie and drink, can not exceed €15 per person. The assigned budget for saver lunch is €15 for one person, €30 for two people, and €45 for 3 people. The saver option for lunch is not available for our Weekends tours.

Upgrade option for lunch in Day tours offers more variety for your meal and one alcoholic drink, in a non-mainstream bistro or gastropub. Food options include hamburgers or sambos (sandwiches) regularly served with sides; and stews or day's soup. Booking the upgraded option lets you enjoy a glass of wine from the house, or a pint of Guinness with your meal.

Together, your chosen meal and one drink, cannot exceed €35 per person. The assigned budget for an upgraded lunch is €35 for one person, €70 for two people, and €105 for 3 people.

Weekend tours

There is only one lunch option for Weekends tours and it is similar to the upgraded one offered in our Day tours.

You can choose your meal and an alcoholic drink (just 1), in a non-mainstream bistro or gastropub. Food options include hamburgers or sambos (sandwiches) regularly served with sides; and stews or day's soup. Also drink a glass of wine from the house, or a pint of Guinness.

Together, your chosen meal and one drink, cannot exceed €35 per person. The assigned budget for lunch ("City Parks" and “Grand Canal & Royal Canal”) is €35 for one person, €70 for two people, and €105 for 3 people.

The lunch for the “A Day in Howth” tour cannot exceed €40 per person. The assigned budget is €40 for one person, €80 for two people, and €120 for 3 people.  For this tour we suggest have a lunch in one of the sea food restaurants in Howth, but there are other options in the local market:  sambos (sandwiches), pizzas and street food.  This option lets you enjoy with you meal a glass of wine from the house, or a pint of Guinness, or a non-alcoholic drink.

Dinner

All our Night tours begin with dinner. You will enjoy a meal in a non-mainstream local pub or bistro. Options are hamburgers, sambos (sandwiches), pizzas and starters (chips, wings, etc). You can order a pint for your dinner, or have a non-alcoholic drink instead. Additionally you will enjoy three more pints during the night, making stops in selected pubs in attention to the tour of your interest.

Together, your chosen food and one drink for dinner, cannot exceed €40 per person. The assigned budget for dinner is €40 for one person, €80 for two people, and €120 for 3 people. The other 3 drinks offered for the rest of the tour are limited to a pint of beer or cider. Cocktails, wine, whiskey and spirits are not options. The assigned budget for these 3 pints is €6.50 per pint, equal to €19.50 maximum for one person, €39 for two people, and €58.50 for 3 people.

Disclaimer. Our Night tours are designed to enjoy the local pub scene drinking in moderation, having approximately one pint (or less) every 45 minutes. Keep in mind that all night tours are still a walking tour. When the tour is finished you can continue the night out if you decide it, but the guide will not be able to extend the tour beyond the scheduled time (6:30 pm to 10:30 pm).

Transport

Our tours are mainly on foot, but you will get a bus, Luas (tram) or Dart (train) ticket, when required. In general tours 85% are on foot.

Gay Dublin Tours can also provide you with a Leap Card (a travel card accepted in public transport) that you can use only during the tour. At the end you have to give it back, to let more people use it too.

Meeting point

Except for other arrangements, our tours start in front of the Jim Larkin Statue (on O'Connell Street, Dublin 1) just few steps from the Spire monument and the General Postal Office (GPO) building.

The meeting point can be another place or the reception of your hotel if it is in the city centre and does not dramatically change the itinerary. To make it possible, maybe you will be requested to be ready for the meeting 10 or 15 minutes earlier than the tour starts.

Equipment

Due to the local weather we suggest you wear sensible clothing and check out the weather forecast. Be ready for a cold, bright, sunny, windy or wet day. We do city tours, so you do not really need professional equipment.

The right clothes, comfortable shoes, and a not-too-heavy backpack with the essentials is the minimum equipment required to enjoy a tour.

Our tours are easy to do. They are long but both, amateurs and professionals can take them. They are mainly city walking-tours. The Weekend tours are likely closer to an outdoor adventure but do not be afraid, still are full enjoyable, made to reach to goal with no rush.

The most extreme of our Weekend tours is “A Day in Howth”, which has a demanding 1-hour pathway going up to the summit of the peninsula, having impressive views of the cliffs, the sea and the city
